Privacy policy

Last updated: 7 July 2026

Wattle Bound Books is a small Australian bookshop run by one person, and this policy is written the same way: plainly. It explains what personal information I collect when you use wattlebound.com, why I collect it, and what I do (and never do) with it.

What I collect

  • Order details: your name, email address, delivery address, phone number if you provide one, and what you bought. I need these to sell and post you a book.
  • Payment information: handled by Shopify and its payment providers. I never see or store your full card number.
  • The letters list: your email address, only if you choose to sign up for letters from the register.
  • Technical basics: like most websites, the shop uses cookies and similar technologies (through Shopify) to keep your cart working, remember preferences, and understand in broad terms how the site is used. You can manage cookies through the cookie preferences link in the footer and in your browser settings.

What I use it for

To process and deliver your order, to answer your messages, to send the letters you asked for, to meet legal obligations (such as tax record keeping), and to keep the shop working and safe. That is the list. I do not build advertising profiles and I will never sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

The letters (email newsletter)

You will only receive marketing email from me if you have signed up or ticked the box at checkout. Every letter identifies the shop and contains a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Sign-up is never a condition of buying a book. If you unsubscribe, you may still receive non-promotional email about your account or an order you have placed.

Who else touches your information

The shop runs on Shopify, so your information is processed and stored on Shopify's secure infrastructure. Delivery details are shared with Australia Post so your parcel can reach you, and payment details are processed by the payment provider you choose at checkout. Each of these providers has its own privacy obligations. Beyond these service providers, and where the law requires it, your information is not disclosed to anyone.

The shop runs on Shopify

Shopify hosts the Services and collects and processes some personal information about your visit in order to provide and improve the store (for example, keeping checkout secure). For that processing, Shopify is responsible for your personal information. You can read the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and, depending on where you live, exercise rights over data Shopify processes at the Shopify Privacy Portal.

International transfers

Because the shop runs on Shopify and ships worldwide, your information may be transferred, stored and processed outside the country you live in. Where information leaves the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, recognised transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK equivalent) are relied on, unless the destination country has been determined to provide an adequate level of protection.

How long I keep it

Order records are kept as long as tax and consumer law require, and the letters list for as long as you stay subscribed. Information that is no longer needed is deleted.

Security

No security measure is perfect, and information you send over the internet is never guaranteed secure in transit. Please do not email me sensitive information such as card numbers; the checkout is the safe place for payment details.

Children

The shop sells children's books, but the Services are for adults: I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child has provided me with their details, contact me and I will delete them.

Access, correction and complaints

You are welcome to ask what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete what I am not legally required to keep. Email hello@wattlebound.com and I will respond within a reasonable time, verifying your identity first where the law requires it. You will never be treated worse for exercising a privacy right.

If you are not happy with how I have handled your information, tell me first so I can fix it. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) or, if you live elsewhere, your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time, for operational, legal or regulatory reasons. The current version will always live at this address, with the "Last updated" date changed.
