Terms of service

Welcome to Wattle Bound Books. These terms cover buying from wattlebound.com and using the site (together with the policies linked in the footer, the "Services"). They are written in plain English on purpose; buying a secondhand book should not require a law degree.

"Wattle Bound Books", "I" and "my" mean Kristyn Rebecca Leppien trading as Wattle Bound Books (ABN 41 142 818 750), an Australian business based in Queensland. "You" means the customer. By using the Services you agree to these terms and to the Privacy policy; the Services are intended for adults, and by ordering you confirm you are at least the age of majority where you live.

1. One copy, one record

Almost everything in the shop is secondhand and exactly one of one. Each used copy has its own record: photographs of the actual copy, a condition grade on my four-tier scale (As New, Very Good, Good, Acceptable), a condition note written by me, and a note on how it was priced. That record describes the exact object you will receive, and it is the standard my goods are measured against. Screens vary, so colours may render slightly differently from life; the condition note and grade are the description that counts.

2. Orders and acceptance

Placing an order is an offer to buy. I accept your order when I dispatch it, and I will email you to confirm. Because each copy is one of one, on rare occasions a copy may be unavailable after you order (for example, it was damaged on the shelf, or two orders collided in the same moment). If that happens I will tell you promptly and refund you in full; that is the whole remedy, and I am sorry in advance.

3. Prices and payment

Prices are in Australian dollars. Wattle Bound Books is not currently registered for GST, so prices do not include GST. Postage is additional and calculated at checkout; for international orders, any customs duties or import taxes are yours. Payment is processed at the time of order through Shopify's payment providers, and you confirm you are entitled to use the payment method you provide. If a price is plainly wrong through an honest mistake (a $140 book listed at $1.40), I may cancel the order and refund you in full before dispatch, and I will tell you why.

4. Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. The details of returns, refunds and my not-as-described promise are in the Return and refund policy, which forms part of these terms.

5. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, and always subject to clause 4, my liability for any claim connected with the shop is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant order. I am not liable for things outside my reasonable control, such as postal strikes or natural disasters, though I will always do what I reasonably can to help.

6. The website and its content

Content on wattlebound.com (including the register design, condition notes, photographs and other text) belongs to Wattle Bound Books and may not be reproduced commercially without permission. Book titles, cover artwork and author names belong to their respective rights holders and appear here to describe the copies for sale. If you send me ideas or feedback about the shop, I may use them to improve it, with my thanks.

7. Acceptable use

Please use the Services lawfully and gently: no unlawful purposes, no interfering with or circumventing the site's operation or security, no scraping or bulk-extracting its content, no malware, and no impersonating other people. I may suspend access to the Services where these terms are being broken.

8. Automated agents

If software shops here on your behalf (an AI or other automated agent), it is welcome on the same terms as you: it must identify itself as an agent in its requests, must not pretend to be human or bypass measures that manage automated access, and its orders bind you as if you placed them. I may limit how automated agents access the Services.

9. Relationship with Shopify

Wattle Bound Books is powered by Shopify, which enables me to provide the Services to you. However, any sales and purchases you make in the shop are made directly with Wattle Bound Books. By using the Services, you acknowledge and agree that Shopify is not responsible for any aspect of any sales between you and Wattle Bound Books, including any injury, damage, or loss resulting from purchased products and services, and you release Shopify and its affiliates from claims, damages and liabilities arising from or related to your purchases and transactions with Wattle Bound Books. Some personal information is also processed by Shopify as described in the Privacy policy.

10. The letters

Sign-up to the email list is optional, governed by the Privacy policy, and every letter contains an unsubscribe link.

11. Changes

I may update these terms from time to time; the current version always lives on this page. The version published at the time you place an order is the one that applies to that order.

12. The small print

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If I do not enforce a term on one occasion, I have not waived it. These terms, together with the linked policies, are the whole agreement between us about the Services. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without my consent; I may transfer mine as part of the business, and your rights would be unaffected.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts there. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this clause does not displace protections you have at home.
